This week I want to talk to you about an idea that can generate lots of extra sales with very little extra work on your part. The idea here is what we call “The Distributor Piggyback.” This blueprint may not be suitable for every business, but hopefully it will get the cogs turning and inspire you to think differently even if your business is not currently the right kind for what I am about to teach you.

Let’s get started…

The Distributor Piggyback is a simple idea. Find a web site that has access to the type of customer who will be interested in your products and let them sell it on their web site. We’re not talking an affiliate arrangement here, where they send visitors to your site. We’re talking about you letting them sell your products on their web site and they get a share and you get a share.

Here’s an example to illustrate what I mean:

You sell martial arts DVD’s. You can sell them on your own web site and that’s fine. But you could also get them on Amazon.com. You could have Amazon as a distributor for your DVD’s and let Amazon sell it to their site visitors and share the profits with you.

You could also approach other martial arts web sites that sell DVD’s and ask if they would be interested in stocking your DVD’s on their sites.

You could even approach offline shops selling martial arts equipment and ask if they want to stock your DVD’s.

The point here is that your own web site is just one channel for selling and distributing your products. Most online business owners think of their web site as the sole source of revenue. While it is often the main source of revenue, it should not be the sole source. You want to diversify your streams of customers and income so that if one source stops abruptly you have other sources still funneling profits into your business.

It’s the same diversifying your traffic so that if one traffic source stops (like Google slapping your site out of the search engine results), you still have other traffic sources sending you traffic.

Ask yourself, if you have products that could be sold on Amazon.com.

Ask yourself, if you have a service or training program that could be turned into an application and put in the Apple store.

Ask yourself, if you could create a book and get it on the Amazon Kindle.

Ask yourself, if there are web sites in your niche that could be a willing distributor for your products.

These kinds of partnerships were the backbone of many businesses before the internet was around. Inventors would desperately try to find a distributor for their products. Companies would try to get their products into stores across the country. These days you can get your products on sites that sell on a global scale!

Things get very exciting when you think this way because you start to realize that there is a whole world of traffic and customers out there for you to tap into pretty easily. So get your thinking cap on. Try and figure out who you can piggyback on!
